Who hasn’t,
at some point in their lives, wished for a pony of their very own?
So, for this
year’s Elevated Envelope Exchange, I decided to make Everyone’s Equine Dreams
come true, and spread the word about a cause near and dear to my heart:
“Horseracing is a multi-million
dollar, time-honored industry. Mint juleps, giant hats, and fists full of
betting cash make for a dramatic three-minutes. It’s similar for the horses – the
first years of their lives are fast and dramatic, but their actual racing
careers are just a brief blip in a horse’s naturally long life. Even the
fastest, most athletic thoroughbred is retired from the racetrack by the time
he or she is 8 years old. After that, the rest of the horse’s life is a gamble.
CANTER finds them new homes so they can avoid a tragic, untimely end.”
To deliver the ponies to their new homes, I designed envelopes to look like little stables, up-cycling brown
paper bags, and including a peep-through window.
Opening the stable reveals, a hand-drawn, individually watercoloured rendering of one of 11 actual retired racehorse available through CANTER.
(Which pony will be yours? Check your mailbox =)
"Bertie Boy"
(Duke is my Favourite!)
"Green Cat"
"Burlap"
"Player"
(they sure do like to run as a herd =)
Calligraphied Jockey Club "Registration Papers", and a bit of the horse's history, including past winnings on the track are also inside....

Beautiful, Thank you Michelle for highlighting our amazing horses!
Thank you Michelle for doing something so special for CANTER horses. As a past volunteer, it warms my heart to see something so personal.
Thank you for such great artistic and educational/informational work. I wasn't familiar w/CANTER, and glad that I am now.
These are absolutely beautiful and majestic! It's heartwarming knowing that Canter USA helps these glorious creatures. You did an excellent job on the registration papers :)
